PRE-REGISTERED WORKSHOPS

When registering, it is important that you indicate your second choices. Some teachers will come only for a minimum of students. Should your first choice be cancelled for lack of enrollment, we will do our best to give you your second choice.

Workshop registration deadline: SEPTEMBER 24, 2010. After deadline, contact Linda Gearhart (636) 296-2079 (e-mail: llgear@sbcglobal.net) for class availability. Confirmation of registration for classes and supplies needed for class will be sent by OCTOBER 8, 2010.

Lunch will be available at the hotel restaurant and not in connection with the classes.

FRIDAY DINNER/AUCTION:  Join us for the dinner/silent auction.  Your dinner price includes your admission to the sales room for both Saturday and Sunday.  There will be drawings awarding gift certificates and other surprises.  Everyone attending receives a special gift for attending.  Choose an entree of chicken or pork.  If you have special dietary needs, please contact Linda Gearhart (636) 296-2079 (e-mail:  llgear@sbcglobal.net).  Cocktails at 6:15 p.m., dinner served at 7:00 p.m.  Dinner for a museum member is $30.00 and $32.00 for a non-member.  

Please go to the  Workshop Registration Form to print out a form, complete, and send by US Postal Service to the person indicated on the form.  Sorry--we do not have online submission at this time.

If you are planning to stay at the hotel , to get the special rate of $79 single or double you must register no later than SEPTEMBER 15, 2010, AND be sure to mention THE GATEWAY MINIATURE FAIR when you make your reservation.  For reservations, call 1-636-532-5000.

If you are flying in and need transportation to the hotel, there is a shuttle available for a fee.  Arrangements must be made with the hotel two days in advance.  

The ballroom rental fee is dependent on the number of sleeping rooms rented.  In order for the museum to get credit for YOUR room rental, make sure you tell the hotel you are coming to the Gateway Miniature Fair.  We appreciate your help by staying at the hotel to help in our fund-raising efforts for the Miniature Museum of Greater St. Louis.

1. 1/4" SCALE "VISIONS OF SUGAR PLUMS." Inside a small book, students will create this bedroom scene. They will wallpaper, create a window seat overlooking a yard with Santa in his sleigh flying by. They will make a bed with two little girls sleeping under a quilt with sugar plums floating overhead. Complete the room with a toy box, skirted table and matching chair.

2. 1/4" SCALE "LAUREN'S HOUSE." Students will assemble a two-story house using pre-cut parts. They will paint, apply stucco, real wood shingles and coloring, optional wallpaper installation (wallpaper furnished).

3. FAERY SCALE (4") "COME TO MY WORLD OF FAERY." Students will create their own faery to take home! Teacher will provide a reinforced wire armature with blank face and eyes. Students will sculpt the entire faery start to finish with polymer clay. Teacher will provide a step-by-step pictorial with instructions (yours to keep). All clay, costume materials, "hair," decorative accents will be provided. There will be an opportunity to purchase teacher's favorite sculpting tool.

4. 1" SCALE CHRISTMAS TABLE. Get ready for Christmas early with a round Christmas dessert table, draped with a classic green and red plaid tablecloth, topped with a small red cloth. The centerpiece will be a tall brass candlestick with a candle inside a hurricane glass, with a pine wreath with a tiny deer. Then on with the desserts! A coconut layer cake, plate of chocolate brownies, and filled candy dish, accompanying mugs of eggnog with napkins and silverware. There will ample cookies to make a platter of twenty different kinds of cookies. A tiny icing decorator bag will be used to decorate a pre-iced double chocolate cake and a plate of chocolate cupcakes. Homemade candy canes will be scattered around the table. A gold star garland with gold bows will finish off the table.

5. 1" SCALE COOKIES IN A TIN. Students will learn to make apricot thumbprint cookies, pecan sandies, butter cookies, double chocolate cookies, chocolate mint cookies and pinwheel cookies. They will then placed in a decorated tin.

6. USING LEDs TO LIGHT MINIATURES. Compared to Standard 12 VAC incandescent lights, LEDs use lots less power, almost no heat, and, if correctly installed, burn much longer. However, LEDs require DC power where polarity (+vs-) is critical and require a current-limiting resistor. The class will learn how to set up and wire LEDs, some suggestions for mounting, and how to incorporate them into existing 12 VAC systems using either diodes or AC to DC converting bridges. Sources for all parts and supplies will also be distributed. Sources for soldering iron: Amazon.com, Weller WLC100, or allelectronics.com, #IR-50.

7. 1" SCALE FALL WATER PUMP. Students will be making a fall water pump using landscaping and working with air dry clay. Class will be making pumpkins and using different mediums. Additional choice of critters will be offered.

8 . 1/4" SCALE 20s KITCHEN SET. Students will assemble, paint and varnish a stove, refrigerator, sink, and table. Pieces are made of wood. The stove and refrigerator have doors that open. Class will include learning to turn table legs with a hand file.

9. BASIC TECHNIQUES FOR PAINTING UNPAINTED METALS. Students will add back shelving unit to a purchased (provided) table. They will be given 7 pieces to learn basic painting with different base coats, dry brushing, antiquing, painting one item various colors. They will flock one item and add bunka to one item. Teacher will give the student two gifts in addition to the seven above metal items.

12, 1/2" OR 1" SCALE HALLOWEEN/FALL FENCING SCENE. Students will be making a Halloween or fall fence. Sample shows one side as a festive fall Halloween look and the other side as a scarier skull look. Students can make either one or combine as in the sample. They will be using air dry clay. Students can make this fence in either 1/2" or 1" scale. Please specify when registering for the class.
